About 50 Alumni and Alumnae turned out for the Alumni Social held at the BBC Tavern last Thursday, May 13. As always, this was an excellent opportunity for fellow Auks to gather and share some memories about Archmere. Thanks to the Alumni Council members Mike Matassino '92 and Matt Manlove '97 for organizing the event.
Auk 5k Run/Walk - Saturday, April 17, 2010
The Alumni third annual 5k took place on Archmere's campus on April 17. Students, alumni, family, and friends gathered to meet fellow alumni, see the ever-changing campus and above all get moving for Archmere! Thank you to our race sponsors and to Kathy Ferro '95 for organizing the event.

Memorial Mass - March 14, 2010
In honor of all deceased Archmere alumni/ae and faculty & staff, the Archmere Academy Alumni Association and Archmere Academy celebrated its' annual Memorial Mass on Sunday, March 14 in the Student Life Center. Nearly 40 members of the Archmere community attended the Mass and the complementary continental breakfast.

Alumni Sports Hall of Fame - February 12, 2010
The Archmere Academy Alumni Association inducted Robert Deveney ’61, Jack Clark ‘82, Matt Bastian ‘83 and Dannielle Kissel Ulmer ’94 into the Archmere Sports Hall of Fame on February 12 in The Patio.
Robert Deveney ‘61 ... Bob played football, basketball and baseball during his years at Archmere. During his senior year in football, Bob’s team was undefeated and in basketball and baseball, he was selected All-Conference. At graduation, he received the Athletics Medal. Bob attended Saint Joseph’s University, making the varsity basketball team as a freshman.
Jack Clark ‘82 ... Jack participated in football, wrestling, swimming and track & field at Archmere. In football, Jack was a three-year varsity starter as an offensive tackle and linebacker. He earned varsity letters in wrestling and swimming. While on the track & field team, Jack was a four-year starter and excelled in the shot put and discus. In college, he played football at Gettysburg College where he was a three-year varsity letter winner.
Matt Bastian ‘83 ... Matt played basketball and baseball while at Archmere. In basketball, he finished his career as the all-time leading scorer and in baseball, he played varsity for three years as a catcher and was named 1st Team All-Catholic his senior year. Matt played basketball at Franklin & Marshall College where he was co-captain of the team his senior year.
Dannielle Kissel Ulmer ’94 ... Dannielle participated in volleyball, swimming and tennis while at Archmere. In volleyball, she was featured on the “Youth in Sports” TV program for serving 15 straight points and leading her team to victory. In swimming, Dannielle placed in the top three in the state for three years in the 200 meter individual medley and placed second in the 100 meter butterfly for both her junior and senior years. She also was captain of the swim team and received the Outstanding Senior Award. In tennis, Dannielle received the Outstanding Senior Award and at graduation, she received a certificate for athletics. Dannielle went on to swim for two years in college at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Court Named for Longtime Coach/Alum Vince Filliben '47 - January 30, 2010 Headmaster Rev. Joseph McLaughlin O. Praem. announced today, January 11, 2010, that Archmere Academy would name its Basketball/Volleyball Court in The Moglia Fieldhouse The Vincent J. Filliben ’47 Court after the school’s longtime coach and Athletic Director Vince Filliben. Vince was honored in a ceremony on Saturday, January 30 prior to the Archmere / Saint Mark’s boys’ basketball game.
Filliben, who turns 80 on February 3, returned to his alma mater in 1953 where he taught mathematics, coached football, basketball, baseball and served as the school’s athletic director. He was also a longtime basketball referee and served as the state’s rules interpreter for many years. His 378 basketball coaching victories were the most ever by a high school coach in Delaware at the time of his retirement.
“Archmere is most grateful to Mr. Vincent Filliben for his lifetime of service and commitment to our school as well as to his family, his parish and our country. Generations of our future students will be forever reminded of his contributions as athlete and coach when they compete on the Filliben Court”, said Father McLaughlin.
The school honored Filliben and his family at a luncheon on January 30 in the McLaughlin-Mullen Student Life Center. The formal court dedication followed in The Moglia Fieldhouse.
St. Edmond's-Archmere Alumni Social - January 9, 2010 St. Edmond's and Archmere celebrated their 1st alumni social at the Logan House in Wilmington on Saturday, January 9. Thank you to everyone who came out to meet friends and rekindle some old friendships.
Visit with Santa - December 12, 2009 The Archmere Alumni Association's annual Visit with Santa was held on Saturday, December 12. Over 40 friends and family attended the event. Guests were asked to donate unwrapped gifts, which were given to children of St. Vincent de Paul (Christ Our King parish) in Wilmington.

Senior Career Day - December 3, 2009
On December 3, nearly 125 senior from Archmere participated in Career Experience Day. The event encourages our seniors to consider possible career choices as they begin to prepare for college. Local companies sponsor the students for the day allowing our seniors to visit their offices and participate. During their visit, they get a chance to experience a "day in the life" of their host by attending meetings, asking questions and observing daily activities.

Golden Alumni Luncheon Over 40 alumni from the classes of 1932-1959 attended the Golden Alumni Luncheon in The Patio. Twenty-one new members were inducted as "golden" alumni. 
Thursday, October 8 Thank you to everyone who came out for the alumni happy hour at the Brandywine Brewing Company Tavern & Grill. It was a great night to catch-up with old friends and reminisce with "Auk-mates". What a great way to kick off Homecoming weekend. Thank you to Matt Manlove '97 for organizing the event.

ALUM NOTES
Alan Browning ’05 Alan, a senior at MIT, helped animate the balloon canopy in the Disney-Pixar movie "Up" (an animated comedy adventure about a 78-year-old man who ties balloons to his house and flies away, with an 8-year-old stowaway). Alan has been working as a visual effects intern at Pixar and has created various effects for the upcoming "Toy Story 3". He currently focuses on research in the Tanguble Media Group at the MIT Media Lab. Alan has also agreed to be one of the featured exhibiting alums at the March 27th Fine Arts Festival at The Patio.
Robert Hanlon '79 Robert recently wrote a book titled The Twist in the Road. He was also invited to discuss his book on the 2nd Opinion Radio Show on WBOB, 1320 AM in Jacksonville, FL.
Meagan Miller '92 Megan presented a benefit concert for St. Maxmillian Kolbe Church at 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 13928 on Sunday, November 1 at 2 PM. Meagan performs opera all over the world. She has just returned with rave reviews from Amsterdam, Vienna and Munich. She will sing Broadway, religious, and opera selections. Kathryn Cunningham Hall '04 Kathryn, founder of Power Up Gambia (PUG), a local organization that has raised funds and implemented a solar electrification project at the Sulayman Junkung General Hospital in The Gambia, spoke at the Delaware Chapter of People to People International 25th Anniversary Gala, and also received an award - People to People Delaware International Community Award. The event took place on Saturday, October 17 at the Wilmington Country Club (Kennett Pike). Click here to read more about Kathryn's story.
Jon Pieslak '92 Jon Pieslak had a book event/signing for his book, Sound Targets: American Soldiers and Music in the Iraq War, on Friday, September 18 in Wilmington. Sound Targets has been featured in The New Yorker Talk of the Town, BBC, NPR and many more major national and international news outlets.
Jessica Zutz '04 Jessica Zutz was a starting defensive player on the silver medal-winning U.S. field hockey team at the 18th annual Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Erin Arvedlund '88 Investigative journalist Erin Arvedlund, who was among the first to suspect Bernard Madoff of fraud, is now out with a revealing new book: Too Good to Be True: The Rise and Fall of Bernie Madoff. She discusses the book with CNBC. Erin presented her book at Penn State Great Valley in Malvern on October 7.
Bill Eppridge '55 Renowned photographer and author Bill Eppridge shares his Woodstock memories.
Dave Cinalli '79 is currently in Baghdad, Iraq working closely with the Navy and U.S. Ambassador securing the seaports. Captain Dave met Vice President Biden who was visiting Iraq and he invited Dave to lunch as they discussed their days at Archmere Academy. Anyone wishing to contact Dave can do so at Capt. Dr. Gonzalo Palacios '55 recently released a book, From Watergate to Hugo Chavez, an ex-diplomats memoirs. Dr. Palacios was the longest serving member of the Washington diplomatic corps prior to the ascendance of Mr. Chavez.
