Archmere Alumnus Involved in Training Program at Olin College: Boston Globe Reports
Scott Thomson '08 is a senior at Olin College, working on a team for AGCO, an agricultural equipment manufacturer in Georgia. He is part of an unusual program at Olin that aims to provide them with real-world experience and support the innovations that drive the economy and keep local companies competitive. Known as the Senior Capstone Program in Engineering, or SCOPE, the program is a graduation requirement for seniors that lasts through the school year and pairs teams of students with companies, ranging from small start-ups to large national operations. A member of the English department from 1979-2008, Mrs. Letts died in a freak car accident in Rhode Island as she and her husband Bill were returning from a family Easter visit in Massachusetts. She was the mother of Will, a past Archmere biology teacher and '83 graduate, Amy (Letts) Hubbard) '85 and Andrew '88.

Rev. Charles T. Urban, O.Praem. died on March 9, 2012. Father Urban was living at Daylesford Abbey. He entered the Norbertine Order on August 28, 1947 and was ordained a priest on June 12, 1954. Father Urban was assigned to Archmere from August 28, 1959 to August 28, 1960, teaching mathematics and religion and serving as Assistant Prefect of Discipline.
Mr. John P. Murphy died on March 12, 2012. He was the paternal grandfather of Laura '08, Kathleen '09, and Kevin '12 Murphy; the viewing will be on March 16, 2012 at Spicer-Millikin Funeral Home in Newark, DE, the Funeral Mass will be on March 17, 2012 at Holy Angels Church in Newark, and burial at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington (near Saint Mark's High School).

Mrs. Geraldine McDermott died on February 4, 2011. She was the paternal grandmother of Colin (’10), Claire (’13), and Christine (’14) McDermott.
Mrs. Lucretia Mandas died on February 5, 2011. She was the mother of John G. Mandas, ’80.
Matt Hicks ’55 died on February 15. A memorial service is being held March 8 in Hilton Head, S.C.
Mrs. Catherine R. Winner died on February 7, 2011. She was the maternal grandmother of Jacqueline, ’03 and Patrick, ’07 Ford.
Mrs. Rita C. Crifasi died on February 8, 2011. She was the mother of Philip, ’67 and Stephen, ’69 Crifasi, and paternal grandmother of Stephen, ’03, Jane, ’05, and Katherine, ’11 Crifasi.
Mr. Matthew J. Hicks, Jr., ’55, died on February 15, 2011.
Mr. Edward Laska died on February 18, 2011. He was the father of Gerald, ’70, Michael, ’73, Anne, ’81, and Peter, ’84 (there were eleven children total).
Mrs. Nancy Zawicki died on February 18, 2011. She was the mother of Glenn, ’85 and Andrea, ’88 Zawicki and mother-in-law of Kathleen Walsh Zawicki, ’85.
Mr. Robert J. Filliben, Archmere student in 1947-1948, died on February 21, 2011. He was the brother of Francis, ’46, Vincent, ’47 (Archmere teacher and coach, 1953-1992) and the late John, ’44 Filliben.
Mrs. Helen R. Lindsay, died on February 24, 2011. She was the mother of Helene Taylor (who worked in the Main Office and in Development at Archmere from January 3, 1989 to September 30, 1993) and Edward Lindsay (a Norbertine seminarian who taught at Archmere, 1981-1982), and maternal grandmother of Michael, ’91, Stephanie, ’93, and Maureen, ’98 Taylor. Father McLaughlin concelebrated her funeral mass at Saint Eugene Church, Primos, PA.
Dr. Charles F. Maguire, ’57 died on February 25, 2011. He was the father of Michele, ’81 and Terrance, ’84 Maguire; donations were made to Archmere in memory of Dr. Maguire; Father John Hynes, ’57 concelebrated the funeral mass.
Mrs. Sabina M. Hebbel died on February 28, 2011. She was the mother of Moira Hebbel O’Connor, ’82.

Mrs. Katherine David died on January 19, 2011. She was the mother of Michael David, ’66, mother-in-law of Arthur Girton, ’64, and maternal grandmother of Alice Girton, ’10.
Mr. John F. Giroso died on January 20, 2011. He was the maternal grandfather of Christian Hagerty, ’93.
Mrs. Ruth H. Vaile died on January 22, 2011. She was the paternal grandmother of Alyssa (’09), Amanda (’12), and John Vaile.
Mr. John E. Redefer ’52 died on January 25, 2011.
