Archmere Soccer Defeats No. 1 Seeded St. Andrew's

On Saturday night, the Archmere Soccer team took on No. 1 seeded St. Andrew's in the DIAA second round game of the State Tournament. With notable plays by Alex Schultz '16 and Kenan Wursthorn '18, Archmere was able to tie up the match with less than one minute left to play, forcing the game into overtime. Scoreless in the first and then subsequent overtimes, the tournament game moved into penalty kicks. Sean Murray '17, Kenan Wursthorn '18 and Matt McCurnin '16 each scored in the first penalty round, matching St. Andrew's score of 3-3. The second round was a 3-2 win for the Auks with penalty kicks by Sean Murray '17, Kenan Wursthorn '18 and Alex Schultz '16. The night ultimately belonged to goalie Blake Parker '17, whose defensive play throughout the game and penalty kick save helped Archmere defeat St. Andrew's and move onto the semi-final round of the State Tournament. The Auks take on # 5 Indian River at Appoquinimink HS tonight at 6:00 PM.
