Ariana Abbrescia '17 was recently named Archmere's Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Candidate. Student of the Year candidates are high school students enrolled in Delaware public or private schools who are interested in and enthusiastic about volunteerism, philanthropy, community outreach, and leadership.

The Student of the Year campaign is a six-week initiative in which nominated high school students participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Delaware Chapter. The students raise money in honor of a local patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. The campaign launched on Thursday, January 21st and concludes on Saturday, March 5th. The candidate who raises the most money at the end of the six-week competition earns the title Student of the Year as well as a $2,500 scholarship to the college or university of his/her choice.

Ariana has chosen to compete to join the fight against cancer and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Any contributions to her team must occur between the two dates. Her team aims to raise $50,000. They will also be hosting a number of fundraising events during that time period. Donations are accepted at her official fundraising webpage at http://events.lls.org/pages/de/SoY2016/aabbrescia

Leukemia is the number one cancer killer of children under the age of 20. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year program allows young people to help other youth battling these devastating cancers.
