Theatre Students Gia Mariano '18 and Lea Harlev '18 Nominated for Cappies Awards

Archmere students Gia Mariano '18 and Lea Harlev '18 received nominations this week by the Cappies Program for Awards for the 2015-2016 season. Five Nominees are selected in each of 35 categories, along with four Commendees per school. At the end of the year, the Cappie Awards are presented by local V.I.P.s at a Cappies Gala. This year, the Philadelphia area Cappies Gala will be held on Sunday, May 1st at Unionville High School.

On the performance side, sophomore Gia Mariano's portrayal of the Librarian in Archmere's fall production of Middletown was nominated for "Supporting Actress in a Play". Lea Harlev '18 earned a nomination for her acclaimed work as a Cappies critic. Her two published reviews earned her an "Outstanding Underclass Critic" nomination.

At the Capies Gala, a "Tonys-like celebration", all nominated shows perform a cutting or the critics' choice song, and the final Cappies awards are presented. Student escorts bring the presenters (elected officials, school superintendents, and Cappies alums) to give the Cappies trophy to the peer- chosen recipients, filling the venue with cheers and supportive applause.
