Varsity Baseball Makes Headlines With Big Win Over Appoquinimink

On Monday, Archmere's Varsity Baseball team scored five runs over the game’s final three innings to run away with a 7-1 upset victory over defending champs, number 5 Appoquinimink, in the second round of the DIAA Baseball State Tournament.

The Auks had a slim one run lead after three innings, but by the fifth inning were able to gain a 5-1 advantage before adding two more in the sixth. Senior pitcher Andrew Orzel allowed just one earned run off two hits while striking out five to earn the win. Archmere’s offense was led by Joe Singley '16 and Mike Dellose '19, who combined for five RBI's at the plate.

The Auks now move onto the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Thursday with their opponent still to be determined.
