Shreyas Parab '18 to Join Harvard Advisory Board

Archmere Academy junior Shreyas Parab was selected from nearly 200 nominees to join the Youth Advisory Board for the Making Care Common Project by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The 2016-2017 Youth Advisory Board includes 26 members who represent 15 states across the nation and a diversity of backgrounds and identities. All YAB members demonstrate a strong commitment to MCC’s mission of building just, caring, and respectful communities. The MCC Project focuses on developing healthy and positive school culture through promoting values of kindness, empathy, and commitment to justice.

Shreyas credits his commitment to the MCC Project to his school and principal, Mr. John Jordan. He says, “The reason I am ecstatic to join the MCC Youth Advisory Board is because I think that I attend a high school that has unlocked the key to nurturing a strong community. Community is one of its core values and it extends far beyond just words on paper for my school. A sense of community and belonging for every student is not the case in most high schools and I hope to work towards an education system where every student, regardless of location, race, or religion feels as if they belong.”

At the age of fifteen, his new role with the MCC Project will not be unfamiliar to him. He has successfully started two companies, one of which was acquired by a million dollar education company, and has been named one of the top six young entrepreneurs in the country by the US Chamber of Commerce. Starting at the age of 14, Shreyas has given four TEDx talks about redefining the education system and youth entrepreneurship and is currently finishing up his term on the Youth Leadership Team of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, where he advised in direction of teen-based programs and lobbied Congress for FY 17 funding to the issue. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the International Youth Neuroscience Association, the Advisory Board for HatchPad, the Youth Technology Health Conference program committee and the National Nonprofit Advisory Board for Kidbacker Enterprises. The MCC Project looks forward to welcoming Shreyas, a young, but seasoned entrepreneur and advisor, onto the team and incorporating his perspective into the project’s goals and initiatives.
