Archmere Students Earn WordWright Honors; Leah DaCosta '17 Earns Perfect Score

Two teams of Archmere students won high honors at this year's national WordWright Challenge, a competition for high school students requiring close reading and analysis of prose and poetry. Participating with 640 schools from across the country, Archmere's eleventh graders earned seventh place in the nation in the year's first meet, held in October, while the twelfth graders placed third in the nation.

One of Archmere's students also won highest national honors for individual achievement: Senior Leah DaCosta, who earned a perfect score, was only one of four twelfth graders in the entire country to do so.

Students who achieved outstanding individual results in the meet included juniors Grace Zhang, Patrick Beck, Danielle Cuoco, Giavanna Mariano, Amy Thomson, and Brant Wesley; and seniors Carla Anderson, Alison Lobo, Emma Stovicek, Arianna Abbrescia, Charles Liston, Olivia O'Dwyer, Alexa Reilly, and Keelin Reilly. More than 64,000 students from 48 states participated in the meet. The Archmere students were supervised by English teacher Steve Klinge.
