Archmere Fall Play "A Christmas Carol" Receives Acclaim

The Cappies, "Critics and Awards Program," is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers such as The Washington PostCincinnati EnquirerDallas Morning NewsKansas City Star, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. The Cappies program brought students from the Greater Philadelphia area to Archmere this past weekend to review the fall play production of "A Christmas Carol". In this program, the students each write a review, and the best three reviews are published in local newspapers and on the Cappies website. Archmere's depiction of the Charles Dickens classic received rave reviews.

With ominous spirits and joyful carolers Archmere Academy dazzled the audience in their wonderful rendition of "A Christmas Carol". They taught us to understand Christmas cheer, using symbolism in a physical way; Archmere Academy used sign language to show Christmas spirit and taught not only Scrooge, but the audience as well, words like family, friends, love, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion,
writes a Cappies team reviewer.

Over forty Archmere students were involved on and behind the stage for this production. Senior Matthew Etzrodt played the inimitable Ebenezer Scrooge. Jack Debruin '17 and Kyla McAvinue '19 played Mr. and Mrs. Cratchit. Senior Keelin Reilly was Scrooge's nephew, Fred. Seniors Jackie Kraft, Arianna Abbrescia, Caroline Quinn, Eli Hunsinger, and junior Gia Mariano played the ghosts. Current faculty member Mr. Tim Dougherty made an appearance as Mr. Fezziwig.
