Archmere Students Compete in Delaware's Mock Trial Competition
On February 27 and 28, twelve Archmere students competed in Delaware's Mock Trial Competition as attorneys and witnesses, earning recognition for their case preparation and delivery. Each year, teams from Delaware's public and private schools are provided a case to analyze and present during this two day competition. Before a panel of Trial Court Judges, attorneys and members of the legal community, including one Delaware Supreme Court Justice, students play the roles of the witnesses and attorneys in the case. Over 250 members of the Judiciary and Delaware Bar act as legal advisors to the teams, and as judges and jurors for the competition.
Congratulations to Phil Anderson '15, Preet Bhaidaswala '15, Rob Focht '15, Kyra Giakas '18, Sanjana Malik '17, Shreyas Parab '18, Jake Regler '16, and Taylor Tucker '17 for their outstanding performances in the competition. Many of our students were also formally recognized with gavels. Congratulations to Matt Groum '17, who was awarded a Best Attorney gavel, Ryan Nowaczyk '18 and Raylin Xu '15, who each earned a Best Witness gavel, and Payas Parab '15, who won two Best Attorney gavels. The team was coached by attorneys Kevin Healy, Esq., ’76, father of Molly ’07 and Emma Healy ’09, Neilli Walsh, Esq., mother of Mara ’10, Kerry ’12, Liam ’14, and Padraic Walsh ’18, and Robert Whetzel, Esq., father of Alexandra Whetzel ’07, along with faculty coach Kathryn LoMonaco ’03.
