Archmere Volleyball Proves Their Strength Against St. Mark's

On Tuesday night, the #1 ranked Archmere girls volleyball team made headlines with an arduous win over St. Mark's (ranked #9).  Even though the Spartans came out strong in the first set, winning 8 of the first 10 points, the lady Auks pulled back up with a 7 point run to win that set, 25-19. St. Mark's won both the second set and third sets, marking the first sets this season that the Auks have lost, and forcing the game past three sets. In an intense and thrilling battle, the Archmere defending champs proved their fortitude by claiming victory to both the fourth and fifth sets.

Delaware Preps writes: With their backs against the wall, the Auks responded like defending champions. Winning the fourth match by twelve, 25-13, the widest margin of victory on the night. Now it was down to the 5th and final deciding match, played to 15. Both squads tied with 2 match wins each and a raucous crowd with supporters from each school feeling the intensity of a possible upset of top-ranked Archmere! The game started fast, both teams were amped up and the score jumped to 5-5. The Auks then made a run and led by 6 points, up 11-5, before St. Marks made their last effort and closed the gap, Archmere lead now cut to three, 14-11. The last point of the night went to the Auks after a referee ruled that the Spartans reached over the net to play the ball.
