Arthur Kerns ’56
had his third espionage novel, The Yemen Contract, released in June 2016. Once again his protagonist CIA operative Hayden Stone combats forces planning to topple Western Civilization.


George Cunningham 1955
retired from the practice of dentistry in January 2015. Since then he has been traveling and studying languages in Spain and Italy.

Father John M. Hynes '57
celebrated Archmere's end-of year Mass on May 14, 2015, Ascension Thursday. Father Hynes was feted for his golden jubilee of priesthood ordination (ordained May 23, 1965). He celebrated his jubilee with a Mass on May 24, 2015 at Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Wilmington where he is pastor.

B. Paul "Tony" Cotter '55 is President of the Judiciary Leadership Council and will be presenting the 26th Annual Kern Medina Seminar for judges on science and humanities at Princeton University from June 11-16, 2015.

Joe Melloy '52 did the pen and ink illustrations for a new book called "Chateau Country: Thirty Three DuPont Estates in the Brandywine Valley."

October 2014

Charles Conway '52 has had essays published in the Oxford Philosophical Review in 2013 and 2014 and attended Peirce International Centennial Congress in 2014.

Gonzalo T. Palacios, Ph.D. '55 announces the publication of his new book, LOVE AND DO WHAT YOU WILL, in March 2015.  Dr. Palacios' new book will appear under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Havana, Cuba.

September 2014 

Dr. George Cunningham '55 is enjoying the Italian lifestyle in Venice while studying Italian at the Istituto Venezia. George and his wife, Pat (Archmere former faculty), have rented a scenic little apartment on a canal in the University District. They are looking forward to some adventurous dining experiences, as well as meeting other students from around the world.

Richard Thompson '51 won gold at the Virginia Senior Games in basketball and qualified for the National Senior Games in 2015 in Minnesota.

May 2014 

Arthur Kerns '56 is releasing his new novel, "The  African Contract, on May 20th. His character, Hayden Stone, is brought back into the CIA to help navigate choppy diplomatic waters in a mission to prevent the worst of weapons from falling into the wrong hands.


March 2014 

Gonzalo T. Palacios, Ph.D.'55, is hosting "OUR TOWN," a new series of television interviews in the Montgomery Municipal Cable TV, a station local to Montgomery County, Maryland. The program is aired on the weekends at 8 PM, or it can be seen at any time on www.mmctv.org


October 2013

Art Kerns '56 recently signed a two-book deal for sequels to his espionage/thriller "The Riviera Contract." In October, Riviera will be available in print format from bookstores and Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble. Some fellow alums have chuckled at the indirect reference to Archmere in the novel. 

May 2013 

Dr. Charles Conway '52 will be presenting a paper and an oral presentation at Oxford in the summer of 2013. He also has an essay published in Peirce Quote Book (Berlin: Mouton de Gruyter, Zolf). 

Joseph S. Dougherty '58 is retired. He has been married for 52 years with 4 children and 9 grandchildren. 

February 2013 

Arthur Kerns '56 announces the publishing of his debut novel: In March 2013 Diversion Books, Inc. will publish THE RIVIERA CONTRACT, Art Kerns's debut novel. The action thriller pitting the CIA against terrorists will be available on all major online eBook publishers, including Amazon, Apple, and Barnes & Noble.

December 2012 

Bob Dunn '55, was recently profiled nationally for his enthusiastic work as a "Santa" for the past eight years. Bob will be returning to the Sooner Mall in Norman, Oklahoma and was included in 17,000 photos taken last year. "The job is pure joy," Dunn said. "For 46 weeks out of the year, you're just another old man with a white beard, but for that six-week period, you're Santa Claus!" he said. Can't beat that. Joe Janssen Jr. '57, his wife Eileen, and daughter Paula recently celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Janssen's Market in Greenville, Delaware. The Greenville landmark was founded by Joseph Janssen Sr. in fall 1952. The business is still family-owned and operated. Their focus is on fine food and top-notch customer service (photo)

September 2012 

Fellow classmates Rich Benoit '55, Phil King '55, and Bob Dunn '55 recently got together for a nostalgic luncheon at the Claymont Steak Shop. They were joined by one of Archmere's original cheerleaders Betsy Plowman Rushie. Betsy recounted how she had purchased the original cheerleading uniforms worn by the Ursuline Archmere cheerleaders at the Archmere Mothers' Guild Garage Sale. Each uniform was still marked with the original names and she was able to return each to the original owners. 

Rich Benoit '55 and his wife Debbie just returned from a 55 day motor coach tour of the Canadian maritime provinces and recently traveled to Ireland for the Notre Dame/Navy game in Dublin in August 2012. 

Bob Dunn '55 will be participating in the 25th Anniversary Alumni Golf Outing on Monday October 1st at Dupont Country Club. 


May 2011


Rev. John Hynes '57 is a pastor for 20 years now at St. Catherine of Siena Parish near Wilmington. He recently got together with fellow classmates Frank Pacello '57, Paul Lovell '57, Dave Shockley '57, Pete Olivero '57 and Dale Stecher '57.  The Class of 1957 will celebrate their 55th year reunion at The Patio on October 6, 2012. 

Mr. Nick Arcese '51 was recently in the area to visit family. While in town, he visited Archmere and toured the current campus. He was joined by his wife Mildred, his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. Nick still resides in Portsmouth, Virginia. 

September 2011

Tom McGuire '56 and Judy will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary in February. They have spent the past year exploring parts of the U.S., sailing their Hunter 420 sailboat on the Chesapeake, and enjoying an extensive river cruise in Europe.

July 2011

Dick Thompson '51 led his team to the Final Four in the recent National Senior Games (Senior Olympics) in Houston, Texas. Dick has played in every Senior National Games since 1995. In 2007 they won the Bronze medal in Louisville. His team placed fourth in the country in the 79-79 age group this year in June. The team is appropriately named the Virginia Creepers.

June 2011

Dr. Charles G. Conway '52 is teaching metaphysics class at the University of California Extension. He attended the European Society of Intercultural Theology conference in Istanbul in April, 2011.

May 2011

B. Paul "Tony" Cotter Jr. '55 is the treasurer for the International Organization for Judicial Training, a 60-country consortuim of 90 organizations. He is heavily involved in planning their international conference hosted by the French in Bourdeuax from October 30 to November 3, 2011.

Joseph Melloy's '52 grandson, Crawford Butler (10 years old) made a game-winning buzzer beater from half court in his championship game in Fairfield, CT. He scored 29 of his team's 36 points in their victory. To see a video of the half-court shot, click here.

Dr. Gonzalo T. Palacios ’55 published his third book, titled Venezuela XXI, The Revolution of Stupidity, in December 2010 in Bogota, Columbia. Dr. Palacios is banned in his native Venezuela.
 
Captain and Mrs. Thomas P. McGuire ’56 are retired and enjoying traveling and sailing the Chesapeake Bay.
