Jim Downey '76 and his wife, Tina, have two children, Jim and Melissa. He works as an Officical for Division I Football. Jim is also the Development Manager for BLOCS, Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools, an organization committed to giving children access to a high quality, values based education in Philadelphia area Catholic schools. Last year they raised $20 million for education.

received the First State Gridiron Community Service Award on May 7, 2016.

Joseph Bowers '73
recently moved from Springfield to West Chester. He has three grandchildren and recently met Fr. Avicoli who said mass at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish.

Robert T. Smith '73
retired from Millersville University as Dean of Science and Mathematics. He is now Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia.

and his wife, Sandy live in Lewes, DE. Tim is Global Head of Quality and Food Safety for M&M/Mars. He travels 80 % of his work time; in the past year he has been to China, United Kingdom, Holland, Turkey, Russia, Dubai (8 weeks), France (4 weeks), and Egypt. Tim and Sandy have three sons: Ryan (26), Eric (23), and Justin (21).

Dr. Stephen Usala '72 and his wife Faye are grandparents. Baby Finn was born to Colin and Solange Usala in May 2014.

Sean Gleason '70
was awarded the Fellows Award by the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society Board of Directors at their annual conference in December 2014 at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA. This is the highest award presented to an individual by VRPS. Gleason, who retired in 2010, is living in Ventnor, NJ where he is enjoying his new hobby, photography.

October 2014

William Green '79 continues as the Hoyt C. Hottel Professor of Chemical Engineering and also the Executive Officer of the Chemical Engineering Department at MIT.  His research group does much of the fuel and chemical kinetics research at MIT, following in a similar path as Doc Sarner.  William and his wife Amanda Cheetham Green '81 have three sons.  Their oldest son, John, is out of school and living in Connecticut.  Their sons Paul and David are in college at Swarthmore and Amherst respectively.

Ed Lynch '75  recently published an e-book, "High Seas Classroom," about his extensive travels as a cruise ship lecturer. In August 2014, Ed traveled to Spain, France, Italy and Croatia. When not traveling, Ed is a professor of political science at Hollins University in Virginia.

John Rutkowski '71 recently became an Amazon Best Selling Author with the publication of his new book “The Business Owners Essential Guide to I.T. and All things Digital.” The book hit #1 in six categories the day it was published.
This is John’s second book and is a collaboration with 21 other peers, each writing a chapter in the book. John's chapter was on Branch Offices and Remote Workers. 



October 2013 

Al Fierro '71 is the co-owner of Olevano Oil. Olevano Oil is the first cold-pressed extra virgin oil imported from the rolling hills of Olevano sull Tusciano in the Campania region of Italy. Olevano Oil recently won "Best of Class" and Gold Medals at the New York International Olive Oil competition. Olevano Oil has also received QVC's coveted "customer top rated" designation and was one of five items selected to compete in the Best Cooking Staple category as part of QVC's 2012 Customer Choice Food Awards.  

Edmond M. Ianni '75 will be presenting at the Center for Community Leadership Development & Entrepreneurship in Pennsylvania this October. He will be on a panel with the President & CEO of Sun Center Studios and two other CEOs addressing how corporations and entrepreneurs can partner in emerging industries.

Joe Murphy '71 and his wife Rita welcomed the births of their first two grandchildren. Nathaniel was born on March 17th to their son Chris, followed by the birth of Madeleine Anne to their daughter Catherine on May 18th.

Joseph Szczepaniak '71 was recently featured in a 3 column article concerning student loans in the April 8, 2013 issue of Bloomberg Business Week. Irv Brockington '74 welcomed twin grandchildren on October 16, 2012. The babies names are Joi and Justin. Irv was also recently elected President of the Cheltenham Little League. 

Joseph Piorkowski '74 and his wife have a newly adopted daughter named Mila, a 14 year-old girl who was living in an orphanage in Demidov, Russia.

Robert Hannigan '75 lives in Flemington, NJ, with his wife, Laura. His son, Corey, graduated from Tulane in 2012 and now teaches English in Japan.

Mark D'Onofrio '71 was recently honored by Pope Benedict XVI in recognition of his outstanding service to the Church. The title of Knight of the Order of St. Gregory was conferred upon him by Bishop Joseph Gallante of Camden in a prayer service on November 4 at St. Agnes Church in Blackwood.
Mark was honored for his dedication and service to the Church of Camden. A long-time benefactor of Catholic education, a member of St. Augustine Prep's Board of Directors and of the Diocesan Building Commission, as well as a member of the school board of St. Mary's School in East Vineland, NJ, he is the secretary-treasurere of his family's construction firm Stanker & Galetto Inc. of Vineland, NJ. He and his wife, Sandy, have been married for 36 years and have three children and two grandchildren.

June 2012

Ed Lynch '75 is taking full advantage of his sabbatical leave from Hollins University to travel and give lectures on cruise ships. In January, Ed traveled to Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, with a stop in Perth to visit a friend. In April, it was off to eight islands in the Caribbean, including Grenada, which appears prominently in Ed's latest book. In June/July, Ed visited eight countries in northern Europe, and spoke about the history and politics of each. It's back to the classroom in September, but Ed is planning to spend Fall Break in China with the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. In all, Ed will visit 20 countries in 2012. In between, you can always find Ed on Facebook!

Dr. Stephen Usala '72 and his wife, Dr. Faye Usala have four children: Sister Grace Miriam Usala, religious sister and medical student at Georgetown University; Colin Usala at the Wall Street Journal; John Usala at the University of Texas, Austin; and Claire Usala, an undergraduate at Georgetown University.

Drew Meiers '76 has recently released his first book, entitled "The Fearful Little Flag." It is a children's book about a flag who is afraid of heights. Great read along for the kids available on Amazon.com

Rob Lazzaro '77 has been elected for a three-year term as an Executive Committee Officer of the Drexel University Alumni Association Board of Governors and to the position of Treasurer of the Board. Rob earned both his bachelor's degree (in 1982) and his MBA degree (in 1996) from Drexel University. Rob has been a member of the Board of Governors since 2008, serving as Chairman of the By-Laws Committee, and Member of both the Honors & Awards Committee and the Nominations Committee. Rob currently lives in England with his wife, Diana, and serves as Senior Vice President and Global Life Sciences Practice Leader for BeechTree Partners LLC, an international executive search firm.

Kevin C. Donovan '77 regrets having to miss his 30th Saint Joseph's University reunion - where 11 out of Achmere's 77 graduates of 1977 attended - but hopes those alumni will show up for the Academy's 35th reunion in 2012. Kevin is the New Jersey head of the Labor & Employment Practice of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelna and Dicker LLP, an 800-lawyer firm, and enjoys keeping up with his friends from Archmere (contacts too numerous to mention.)

John Busillo '75 married Amy Gray in July 2010, and is enjoying married life once again. Also, after 30 years managing new car dealerships, he has become a business owner, having opened Excel Motors Sales & Service in Langhorne, PA.

Vincent Filliben '78 became the proud grandfather of Ford Holden Filliben, who arrived 3/18/2011. Ford is 6 lbs 15 ounces, 20 and 3/4 inches. Parents are Vincent III and Heather Filliben. They reside in Winston-Salem NC.

Richard O’Hara ’72 is in his 4th year as president of The John Carroll School (Bel Air, MD.) and he and his wife are in their first year as empty-nesters. Their youngest daughter left for college in September.
 
James Michael Donahue, Jr. ’73 has six grandchildren: Amber (12), Christian (11), Jamie (7), Taylor (7), Emma (5), Addison (2), and another one is due in February.
 
Paul Casey ’75 owns and operates Casey Resources, Inc. which is an environmental engineering and contracting company servicing the Rocky Mountain region.
 
David ‘76 and Geri ’76 Green are practicing the new talent of being empty-nesters, starting with a 2000 mile motorcycle trip across Alaska this past summer, which was amazing.
 
Michael A. DiFonzo ’78 married Theresa Gerlach on November 28, 2009 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wilmington, DE. Father McLaughlin was co-presider of the ceremony, with Theresa’s brother, Father Michael Gerlach of Delaware County. Mike is a Real Estate Broker for RE/MAX Sunvest Realty, while Theresa is a Pastoral Associate for Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. The couple lives north of Wilmington.
