Corinne Sullivan '13 & Megan Totino Consedine '87

Archmere's students are inspired to distinction in the classroom, on the athletic fields, in the studio, on the stage and in the community every day. After graduation, our alumni go on to become successful professionals in their fields, leaders in the community, and living testimonies of their Archmere education. Archmere senior Corinne Sullivan and 1987 graduate Megan Totino Consedine are just two examples of the unique students and alumni of Archmere Academy.

Corinne Sullivan ‘13, Secretary of Executive Student Council, was a campaign intern for Congressman Carney of DE and a 2012 AP Scholar with Honor.

Megan Totino Consedine ‘87 is the first female Secretary of the PA State Senate. Her career includes service to the Navy and the PA Governor’s office.
Corinne Sullivan ‘13
Secretary of Archmere Academy’s Executive Student Council Corinne Sullivan ’13 enjoys working to better her school community, and hopes to someday work to improve the country. She has served on student council for four years, is a member of Archmere’s Model UN, a senior leader for the retreat program, Kairos, and for campus ministry, and participates in community service. She’s also a captain of the cross-country team, and proudly states that she has never missed a practice, despite a back injury and subsequent surgery sophomore year that has prohibited her from running.

Despite any setbacks, Corinne is consistently positive and hardworking, and loves being involved. “The people and the spirit here [at Archmere] are so welcoming,” she says, “I’m often here until 5 or 6:00 at night for activities or sports, but so is almost everyone else, so it’s fun – you never want to leave!”
Corinne has felt the Archmere spirit since before freshman year, coming from a long line of Auks. Her parents, Jennifer (Reardon) Sullivan ’83 and John Sullivan ’83 are graduates of Archmere, along with her aunts, uncles and many of her cousins. Her brother, David, is currently a sophomore.

Academically, Corinne is enrolled in a number of Advanced Placement classes and as a result of last year’s tests, was named an AP Scholar with Honor. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Science Honor Society and has received suma cum laude recognition. Her favorite subject is history, and she hopes major in political science and attend law school after college. “I really want to be part of the political process,” she says, adding that she’d like to work behind the scenes of a campaign or as part of the legislature.

She had her first taste of working in public service over the summer, when she interned with Congressman Carney’s campaign team, processing data, working events, and using skills she learned in Archmere’s AP Digital Design class to help create marketing materials and edit photos. Corinne has also worked for her uncle’s law firm, and hopes to find more internship opportunities in college.

This November, she voted in her first election. “I made the cut off by eight days!” exclaimed the newly eighteen-year-old senior, whose birthday was October 28. “It was exciting to be able to participate in the election this year.”

Corinne is looking forward to college life, but says she will miss her friends and favorite teachers at Archmere.

Megan Totino Consedine ‘87
The first female to serve in the role of Secretary/Parliamentarian for the State Senate of Pennsylvania, Megan Totino Consedine has devoted her legal career to public service. After graduating from Archmere in 1987, she graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s in English and earned her juris doctorate from Widener University School of Law.

Her interest in public service started at a young age, and was encouraged by her family. “My parents instilled in me the values of hard work, doing your best, and being a role model for others,” says Megan. At Archmere Academy, she served as Secretary of the Executive Student Council her senior year under the now Attorney General of Delaware, Beau Biden ’87.

After graduation, one of her favorite teachers from Archmere, Señor McFadden, became her mentor. He left Archmere to pursue a legal career when Megan was in college and she worked as his intern. “For students considering the legal field, internships and networking are so important,” says Megan, “and Señor McFadden really helped me discern my interests.”

Prior to being named Secretary of the Pennsylvania State Senate in May of 2012, she worked in the Governor’s Office of General Counsel as Deputy General Counsel for Transactional and Regulatory matters. She had previously served in the Governor’s Office as Special Assistant to the General Counsel, Deputy Director for the Governor’s Office of Public Liaison, and Special Assistant to former Gov. Tom Ridge. During that time, she participated in Duke University’s Strategic Leadership for Executives in State Government and the Office of Administration’s Leadership Development Institute for Women in State Government.

Megan Totino Consedine has also provided legal service to our nation’s military as a civilian attorney in the Department of the Navy’s Office of the General Counsel, and has taught as a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Widener University School of Law.
“For me, it has always been important to feel good about the work that I am doing,” she says. “Working in public service has been challenging and meaningful, and has allowed me to work with some of the most hardworking and dedicated people in the legal field.”

Accepting the role of Secretary/Parliamentarian of the Pennsylvania State Senate, Megan realized the great responsibility and honor that would come with being the first female in the role. “It was a key factor when I was deciding whether to take the job,” she states, “and it drives me to work harder – knowing that I am helping to blaze the path for the future.”

Though fairly new to the State Senate, Megan is finding it to be a tight-knit and welcoming community, not unlike what she remembers loving most about Archmere. “I feel very privileged to be a part of the legislative process,” she says, “and my career and educational path are a testament to the foundation I received at Archmere.”
