John Yasik '77 to Join Delaware Track & Field Hall of Fame

John Yasik '77 set Archmere's record 4:16.8 in 1,500 meters at 1976 New Castle County Championships and anchored Auks’ record-setting two-mile relay foursome. Other scholastic accomplishments included state Junior Olympic mile title, two runner-up finishes in county cross country meet and third-place finish in states.

At the University of Delaware, John ran on three East Coast Conference championship track teams, was part of record-setting 4 x 1,500-meter unit and qualified for 1980 NCAA Cross Country Regionals. He later became one of the state’s top road racers and clocked a 2:30:19 at the 1985 Boston Marathon. He then founded the cross country program at Newark’s Holy Angels School in Catholic Youth Ministries and started the Neighborhood Relays, an annual Olympic-style track meet in Hockessin.
