Science Department Trip Spring Break 2020
The Science Department has once again designed an incredible trip for next April 9-16, 2020. Experiential Learning: Marine and Terrestrial Science in Belize. Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America and is adjacent to the 2nd largest coral reef system in the world. Students will hike and explore terrestrial tropical ecosystems (lowland savanna, tropical savanna and tropical rainforests) while staying at the internationally recognized Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center. The zoo contains only injured or orphaned native wildlife. Students will join research teams and/or participate in a service project for conservation at the zoo. Students will snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef including 2 marine reserves while staying on Tobacco Caye in the Caribbean Sea. Students will visit the Smithsonian Institute Research Station on Carribow Caye and learn about current marine research.
Science Department trips always have expert naturalist guides from the region who are both incredibly knowledgable about the plant and animal life but also have great interpersonal skills. Other Science Department trips have included Kenya, Fiji, Kenya, Egypt, New Zealand, Alaska and most recently, Costa Rica.
