Gavin Fanning '21 Scores Winning Goal to Defeat Charter

The Archmere soccer team defeated the Charter School of Wilmington 2-1 on October 2nd, in their fourth Diamond State Athletic Conference game of the season. The game was played at Charter, without spectators. The fans were loud, though, and could be heard honking their cars around the school property during the spirited matchup.
The game was tied with no score until after halftime, when Charter took a successful shot in the 45th minute. Archmere quickly responded with a left-footed goal by Adam Linton '22.

Gavin Fanning then sealed the win with minutes left in the game. Mike Lang of the Dialog describes Gavin's goal in his article, writing, "Playing with a strong, cold wind at their backs in the second half, the Auks began their winning play with a throw-in. Force goalkeeper Owen Freeman made a superb save on a first attempt, but Fanning closed in from the top of the 18-yard box and blasted a shot into the net for the go-ahead goal."

In total, Archmere goalie Nico Triantafillou completed five saves. The Auks had the game’s only two corner kicks. Archmere improved their record to 3-1 and will compete again on the road on Wednesday at Saint Mark’s, at 3:15 p.m.
