Archmere Dramatics Presents: "Into the Woods"

The Archmere Academy Drama Club is proud to present its Spring Musical, the Stephen Sondheim classic, Into the Woods. This stunning Broadway musical won several Tony awards in 1987 including Best Book and Best Score for a Musical. Into the Woods weaves together multiple Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the themes of dreams and “being careful what you wish for”.
The musical centers around the main storyline of the Baker and the Baker’s Wife (played by junior Rob Smith and senior Alexis Rendel) and their desire to have a child. Together they must try to undo a spell put on them by their neighbor, the Witch, who is portrayed by junior Ella Bellace. As they venture into the woods to find ingredients for the spell, they run into several characters from other fairy tales who have also gone into the woods in search of adventures and to chase their dreams. Little Red Ridinghood (played by senior Gianna Abbrescia), Jack of the Jack and the Beanstalk story (played by freshman Jack Maister), and Cinderella (played by junior Amanda Treston), among others, run into the Bakers and chaos ensues. Over thirty students will be a part of this wonderfully talented cast and crew.

Into the Woods twists farcical and touching theatrical moments with songs written by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. The show will make you laugh, cry, question your own wishes and reaffirm the value of love and family.

The show will be performed in the Archmere Auditorium on Thursday, Friday and Saturday April 15 - 17 at 6:30pm, with a special matinee performance on Saturday the 17th at 12pm. In addition, advised COVID safety protocols are in place – 30% seating capacity and masks worn by the cast and the audience at all times. Archmere will also offer an extended intermission and free refreshments in the SLC during that time. Tickets for the show are available online at the Seat Yourself website and at the door. Tickets will be $15 for general admission and $10 for students and faculty of any school and senior citizens. Tickets purchased online ahead of time will be slightly discounted.

Warning – Act One has a 1:15 run time and complete storyline in itself where all the characters attain the dreams that they sought. This would be perfect for younger audience members. Act Two continues the plot which shows the characters dealing with the consequences of achieving their dreams. This second act will have a 1 hour run time, and has more sensitive themes that may not be appropriate for younger children. With the longer intermission, the run-time of the entire night will be 2:45.
Thank you for supporting the performing arts at Archmere Academy!
