Archmere Field Hockey Competes in State Championship Title Game

Archmere completed an incredibly successful field hockey season with a trip to the DIAA Division II State Championship game against Delmar, held at Rullo Stadium at the University of Delaware. The second-seeded Auks were playing in the title game for the first time in more than three decades, while the No. 1 ranked Wildcats were looking for their seventh straight title. Archmere's group of seven seniors wrapped up their high school careers on November 19 in the State Championship game. And although they lost to Delmar, 7-1, they will graduate having done something no other Archmere field hockey team has accomplished since 1991 - they reached the title match.
The 2022 Auks opened the season with ten straight wins before falling to Smyrna, the eventual Division I State Champion. Archmere seized the Diamond State Athletic Conference title on November 1, after defeating the Charter School of Wilmington 1-0. The win clinched their No. 2 spot in the playoffs and earned them a first round bye. On November 12, the team posted a commanding 4-0 shutout against Sussex Academy in the quarterfinals and went on to successfully fight a defensive battle for a 1-0 win against Tatnall in the semifinals, sealing their State Championship appearance.

The title game was scoreless for more than nine minutes. Bella Dell’Oso '23, who will play collegiately at Temple University in the fall, scored the lone goal for the Auks. Goalkeeper Ava Hughes '24 recorded an impressive 39 saves. Archmere ended the year 15-3.

Congratulations to the field hockey team on their amazing season!
