Volleyball Team Defeats Padua in Thrilling Match

On September 14th the Archmere volleyball team rebounded from a first set loss against Padua to win the next three sets and the match. The game took place in the Moglia Fieldhouse in front of a very spirited and packed crowd. The team displayed their dominant hitting skills and improved their record to 2-1. Set scores were 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, and 25-20.
After losing the first set, Archmere came into the next set with a renewed energy. The second set was tied at 11-11 before the Auks were able to create some separation. After an ace from Ceci Connolly '24 and a block by Daphne Addo '24 put the Auks ahead 14-11, the rest of the match belonged to Archmere. A big hit by Ceci Connolly '24 secured the win.

Mike Lang of the Dialog wrote of the third set, "Big hitting was on display in the third set. Katie Kuehl of the Auks and Kaitlyn Leberstien of Padua took turns pounding points as the teams battled in front of a near-capacity crowd that included a large group of Archmere students. The Auks were ahead, 21-13, but the Pandas responded. They closed to within a point on a kill and held off one set point, but the Auks took the set."

After five ties in the early stages of the fourth, the Auks scored three straight points to forge an 11-8 lead. But the Pandas rebounded once more, taking a 14-12 lead at one point. However, Daphne Addo '24 once again sparked the Auks with a big block and an ace from Ella Strohmaier '24 restored the lead at 15-14. When the score was tied at 19, the Auks went on a 4-0 run that included an ace from Abigail Im '25. After a timeout at match point, senior Ceci Connolly's swing was blocked and went out of bounds to and seal the win.

The volleyball team travels to St. Elizabeth's to play the Vikings at home on Tuesday.
