Freshman English Students Start to Focus on Research Papers
Freshman English students are in the library this week researching poets from around the world. Students are using a combination of print sources and databases such as JSTOR, The Literary Reference Center, and UDlibsearch. They will use this research to support their own interpretations of a writer's poetic work.
Art Students Celebrate Black History Month
For Black History month, Ms. Kate Huffman and Ms. Maia Palmer's art students studied Mark Bradford, El Anatsui, and Chakai Booker. They are working to create their own abstract artworks out of recycled/repurposed materials. The artworks all need to reflect a story, or a message, or a concern.
Masterclass Broadway Workshop
On Monday, April 8th from 5:30pm - 8:00pm, Archmere's Drama Club will be hosting Andrew Chappelle, the current principles understudy for the Broadway smash hit, Hamilton. The workshop will take place on Archmere's stage and is reserved for students of Archmere Academy. There are only fifty spots in this first come, first serve opportunity. The cost is $40. Michelle Midgley Chosen to Speak at American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Conference
World Language and Culture Teacher Ms. Michelle Midgley was recently invited to present a 30 minute session at the 101st annual American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Conference. The conference, which will take place in San Diego, California, from July 8-11, will offer 250 sessions and special events for approximately 800 attendees. Ms. Midgley's session will be a 30 minute presentation called: “Authentic Resources: Where they are and how to use them.” In this presentation she will teach attendees where to find authentic resources (anything made for Spanish speakers by Spanish speakers) and how to integrate them into their daily teaching. In this way, students learn not only the language and its specific colloquialisms, but also the culture of different Spanish-speaking countries. 2019 Summer Driver Education Program at Ursuline Academy
Ursuline Academy is offering a Driver's Education program this summer that includes 30 hours of classroom instruction along with the 14 hours of in-the-car driving instruction and observation. Students must attend an orientation at Ursuline to confirm their driving schedule. The June class option is June 10-13, 2019 from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The July class will be held July 8-11, 2019 from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Only one class is required and driving may extend beyond these dates.
