Phoebe Brinker '20 Named Golfer of the Year

After winning her second DIAA individual title in three years, rising Archmere junior Phoebe Brinker has been named Golfer of the Year.

On May 30th, Phoebe collected five birdies, including a critical effort at 16 to win the 2018 DIAA Golf Championship by one shot at Odessa National Golf Club. She battled back and forth with the first-round leader Austin Barbin of Red Lion for the Championship. The Auks team took home 3rd place, one shot behind Appoquinimink. Phoebe, who won the 2016 title, helped lead the golf team to an impressive 12-2-1 record this year.

Brad Myers of the News Journal interviewed Phoebe and wrote, “I did it more for the team this time,” Brinker said. “Two years ago, I kind of knew we were going to win as a team, so it was all for myself. … I was doing it for the team this year.”

Phoebe is currently 79th in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings, which includes the top girls golfers from all over the world. She tied for 35th in the prestigious Rolex Girls Junior Championship last month in Park City, Utah. Today, Phoebe plays in the USGA Girls’ Junior championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California.
