Mitch Moyer '19 Highlighted for Leading the Football Team
Archmere's Mitch Moyer '19 has played right tackle, quarterback and running back on offense this season. But his strongest position is defensive end, where he has committed to play at Columbia University in college. Recently the News Journal published an article on Mitch, highlighting his ability to play multiple positions for the Auks.
The News Journal article described Mitch's athletic ability by writing, "Through seven games, Archmere’s 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior is tied for the team lead in tackles (46) and leads in tackles for loss (16) and sacks (seven). As an offensive lineman, he leads the Auks in pancake blocks (14). As a quarterback/running back, he has rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns. And on special teams, he has blocked three punts, kicked off six times and punted 12 times."
Mitch's coach, Archmere science teacher John Bellace, believes Mitch performs best when he plays defense, and is quoted as adding, “He’s a good offensive player, a good special teams player,” Bellace said. “But you can see he really turns it up to another level when he’s on defense. He really helps get that unit with the attitude that we really want them to play with.”
Mitch also plays lacrosse in the spring for Archmere, a leader on that field as well who helped the Auks to a 12-3 record last year and a run for the state title.
Last week the Archmere football team defeated Red Lion 48-0, improving their record to 7-1. Next up they play Charter at home on Saturday, November 3rd at 2:00pm. It is also Senior Day.
