Luke Fracek '20 Participates in Spanish Immersion Program

Archmere junior Luke Fracek was awarded a National Spanish Exam Global Citizen Scholarship last spring. The National Spanish Examination (NSE) offers fifteen Global Citizen Scholarships each year for Underclassmen. Recognizing student achievement and language proficiency in the study of Spanish, the scholarship covers the cost of tuition for a two-week Spanish immersion program through Concordia Language Villages in Minnesota. Concordia Language Villages is one of the most prestigious institutions for the teaching of foreign languages. The national application procedure included a video clip discussion in Spanish, a typewritten essay, school transcripts and letters of recommendation.

Luke participated in the
immersion program from July 30th through August 11th this summer, and his thoughts on his experience were recently highlighted on the National Spanish Camp Flyer. At Concordia Language Villages, the approach to language teaching puts villagers into a grand simulation of a trip abroad and into a culturally authentic setting—similar to what is found in that foreign country—but filled with carefully designed learning opportunities and well-trained language teachers who help villagers understand what they hear, learn how to respond and converse, and practice new skills all day, every day.

“The atmosphere was very open and welcoming to everyone, I felt comfortable enough there to go far out of my typical comfort zone, I danced and sang more at this camp than I think I ever have before. I could not have asked for a better experience, my time at Concordia language villages met and far exceeded all my expectations.” - Luke Fracek '20
