Tim Dougherty Attends Gala for the Girls

Director of Academics and Archmere English Teacher Mr. Tim Dougherty attended Gala for the Girls, a fundraiser for PPES, the Pardada Pardadi Educational Society, in Fairfax, VA this month. PPES is an organization that promotes rural development through education, employment and empowerment of rural girls and women in India. PPES is situated in rural Anupshahr, India, 150 kilometers east of India’s capital of Delhi, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, an area infamous for its poverty, crime and child marriages. Two years ago, Mr. Dougherty, along with twelve Archmere students, traveled to northern India during Spring Break to visit Pardada Pardadi Educational Society (PPES) and spend time with the Pardada Pardadi Girls School.

About 3 million girls are out of school in India. Estimates show that for every 100 girls in Rural India, only 1 reaches Class 12. PPES provides free education, job opportunities, healthcare, and livelihood enhancement for girls and women from the marginalized sections of society and enables them to break out of the cycle of poverty. Archmere Community Service Offers "Trunk or Treat" with Knollwood

The Archmere Community Service Club hosted a "Trunk or Treat" for local families at Knollwood Community Center on Friday, October 26. Many Archmere students decorated cars and parked them in the lot. Kids came dressed up to walk around and trick or treat by visiting each car. The idea was to provide a safe and fun experience for all.
