Monthly College Counseling Update: October 2018

Senior Application Season
November 1st marks the largest of the college application deadlines for Archmere students. Over 90% of seniors have an application submitted by this date and the Office will process over 1,000 application requests. Students are spending the final days before this early deadline finalizing essays and proof-reading their applications.

College Representative Visits
This fall the College Counseling Office welcomed over 135 colleges and universities to campus to share information about their schools and learn more about what makes Archmere a wonderful place. Juniors and seniors have the ability to meet with the representatives to learn more about the schools and their application process. We are at the tail end of college admission travel season as admission professionals look to return to their offices to begin reading applications.

Junior Panel
Juniors will be required to attend their annual College Panel on Tuesday, November 13th at 7 pm in the SLC. Junior parents are encouraged but not required to attend, and all members of the Archmere community are welcome. We will welcome five college admission representatives from popular Archmere schools to discuss the college search and admission process. Following this program juniors will begin to meet individually with their college counselor.

Professional Presence
Archmere has been, and will continue to be well represented at the local and national level in the college admission profession. Mr. Boehm presented at an educational session at the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s (NACAC) annual conference this September in Salt Lake City. Ms. Souza attended the College Board Forum in Dallas as a member of the Middle States Regional Council and was also chosen to be a part of the University of Delaware’s Regional Counselor Advisory. In November, Mr. Boehm will be presenting three educational sessions on behalf of NACAC’s Professional Development Committee to counselors from Loudoun County Virginia on Under-matching, the Path for Student Athletes, and Grit & Growth Mindset.
