Girls' Basketball Advances to Second Round of DIAA Tournament

Congratulations to the Archmere girls' basketball team for defeating Mount Pleasant on February 27 in the opening round of the DIAA basketball tournament. The Auks advance to a second-round game with third-seeded Sanford on Friday night at 7:00pm in Hockessin. Juniors Madison Stewart and Isabella Gioffre each scored eight to lead Archmere, while senior Sydney Niumataiwalu added seven points.

Coach Dan Pisani was quoted by The News Journal as saying, “I think we just executed a little bit better offensively in the second half,” Pisani said. “We attacked. When we’re not hitting shots, we’ve got to attack the offensive boards better. … I thought Syd really got to the glass really well.”

Archmere improved to 13-8 and visits No. 2 Sanford at 7 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door beginning at 6 p.m.
