Girls' Lacrosse Earns Second Seed Heading into DIAA Tournament

"Archmere wrapped up its girls' lacrosse regular season on May 13th at Tatnall, riding a second-half surge to a 19-10 win. The Auks led by just a goal at halftime before pulling away after intermission." Caroline Donovan '19 led the Auks with six goals, while Kate Olsen '19 had five. Alexandra Harrington '22 added a hat trick. Goalie Maura Smeader '21 had six saves.

Archmere finished the regular season with a 13-2 record and enters the state tournament as the second seed. Their losses were only to the top seed, undefeated Cape Henlopen, and to Padua. Archmere features a senior-heavy roster led by high-scoring Caroline Donovan and Meghan Reilly. However, they get plenty of scoring support from the rest of the team. Archmere has one of the "stingier" defenses in the state, allowing fewer than seven goals per contest, most of that due to the efforts of sophomore goalie Maura Smeader.

Archmere will play at home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., facing the winner of Wilmington Charter at Polytech. Those schools meet on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
