Monthly College Counseling Update: May 2020

End of Year Programs

We’ve spent the month of May attempting to celebrate seniors as best as possible. Video tributes, trivia competitions, and a lot of prizes were the order. Plenty more opportunities to say congratulations and good luck this week and hopefully again in July. For seniors we will be making a final push to update all their decision and ensure that scholarship information is accurate.
Our webinar Business Unusual was extremely well attended. Guests from University of Rochester, University of Delaware, Kutztown University, and RNL-Render provided insight into the future affects of COVID 19 on the college search and application process. A video of the program will be posted on our YouTube channel.

In lieu of Freshman & Sophomore Parent Night we will be sharing videos for both parent groups in the coming weeks and encourage questions.

Moving on to the Underclassmen...

This week we will be emailing rising juniors and seniors a checklist of recommended summer actions to best prepare them for their upcoming college search and application process. Parents will also receive their own to-do checklist. As a reminder, the College Counseling Office is open (virtually until further notice) during the summer months to answer questions and assist students and families. For rising sophomore and junior families that are eager (or anxious) about the college search journey, we’re offering optional and informal meetings with College Counseling in June and July and also welcome phone calls and emails.

Summer Plans

College Counseling will be spending the early summer months evaluating programming, setting the 2020 - ’21 academic calendar of events, attending professional development opportunities, perhaps visiting schools, and hopefully recharging our batteries as we recommend everyone do.
