Sharing Strategies for Effective Blended & Online Teaching & Learning

On September 28, Archmere Art Department Chair Stephanie Silverman, NBCT '00 presented an interactive webinar on effective strategies for sustaining studio culture and best practices for learning in art and design in a virtual environment for the Rhode Island School of Design’s Alumni Association. Silverman is also a featured presenter at the upcoming Delaware Art Education Association’s Visual Art Virtual Convergence Conference on Friday, October 9, 2020. Her best practices presentation, titled Optimizing Virtual Learning in Art & Design with Blogger: Leveraging Free MABs for Critique, Connection, and Visual Documentation will showcase how Silverman is incorporating multi-author blogs (MAB’s) to foster authentic and meaningful classroom connection, critique, and feedback opportunities in a virtual instructional environment.

In July 2020, Silverman also completed Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Developing Strategies for Online Teaching and Learning, a cutting-edge research and theory-based course combined with practical strategies. The integration of blogger into each art course is the result of her capstone project in the course. The platform expands opportunities for communication, feedback, and collaboration between in-person and virtual learners in the course. Silverman has been using blogs for over a decade to create a meaningful extension of the classroom environment to a virtual interactive space.

12th Annual Activity Fair

The Counseling Department hosted its
12th Annual Activity Fair on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 during our C Day Schedule to promote awareness and membership in all Archmere clubs and organizations. Due to Covid-19 and our new health and safety guidelines, the fair was held virtually. There were 41 clubs and organizations represented and each club provided videos and an online sign up form so students could learn about the club then sign up for membership based on their interest. The videos were posted for all to view on MyArchmere. Despite the changes to this annual fun event it was still an exciting day with lots to offer.
