Men's Basketball Defeats Wilmington Friends in Thrilling Battle

On January 30th in the Moglia Fieldhouse, Archmere and Wilmington Friends battled in an exciting non conference game, with the Auks winning by one basket as the clock ended. With the Quakers up just seconds into the game, Chris Albero '23 got the Auks on the board for the first time, and he tied the game shortly thereafter with a three-pointer. The first and second quarters were back and forth, until Matt Dellose '22 hit a 17-foot baseline jumper and was fouled with just .1 to go until the half.
The game continued the same way it started in the second half, with each team immediately answering the other's points. Kieran Udovich '23 ended a Friends shooting streak and put the Auks back on top when he "split two defenders and laid the ball off the glass". Friends answered by tying the game again. Chris Albero '23 rose to the occasion after that, hitting a 12-footer, then picking up a steal and a basket for a four-point advantage. The lead was 54-51 with 39.5 seconds remaining. Again, Friends answered with a three pointer. In the end, Anthony Mariano '21 was fouled with 2.6 left and the Auks took the win.

Sophomore Chris Albero led the Auks with 18 points, while junior Matt Dellose and senior Anthony Mariano each contributed 11. The Auks (5-1) play St. Mark's at 8:00pm on Friday night at the 76ers Fieldhouse in the annual SL24 Memorial Basketball Classic.
