Jim Malseed Receives Carl S. Campion Service Award

On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, athletic trainer and health teacher Jim Malseed, M.Ed., ATC, received the Carl S. Campion Service Award for his exemplary service to Archmere Academy. This award is given annually to a current or former faculty, or staff member whose contributions, work ethic, humility, integrity, and spirit have made Archmere Academy a better place.
Mr. Malseed’s dedication to Archmere began in 1981, and he is remembered fondly by alumni and parents.

From Chris Sanna ‘05:
Jim Malseed is a pillar of the Archmere Academy community. He represents everything good about Archmere: always present, continuously serving others, never seeking the spotlight, and constantly supporting the Archmere community. Jim never misses a game and does everything imaginable to support his athletes, coaches, and fans. Anytime I return to Archmere, he makes me feel like I am home, as he does to all alum. I have never seen a man give more to a school than Jim has given to Archmere. Jim Malseed: the ultimate Auk Fan and the ultimate representation of Archmere Academy.

From Marc A. Ross ‘91:
I would often just hang out in the training room with him, not just for medical needs but to talk about life, school, whatever. For me, it felt like a safe haven just to have fun, be myself and learn from his wealth of knowledge. We had a hilarious bonding experience at my very first football game as a freshman that we still joke about whenever I see him to this day. It always brings me joy to talk with him knowing he is in the elite few who made my Archmere experience amazing.  I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.

From Paul Pomeroy, Sr. PP‘88 and former Archmere principal:
Jim has overseen the health and well-being of Archmere athletes for all or part of five decades. All athletes—regardless of gender, age, sport, or season. His commitment to them has always been personal and sincere—his affection for them like a father for his family. As a former coach myself – and as the father and grandfather of former and present Archmere athletes- I am proud and honored to have been able to call Jim, my friend for these past 41 years.

Mr. Malseed was inducted into the Southeast Catholic-Bishop Neumann-St. John Neumann High School Pirate Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Delaware Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame in 2004.  He has also been awarded the Henry Schein/Micro Bio-Medics Eastern Athletic Trainers Association Scholastic Athletic Trainers Award, the Cramer Products/Eastern Athletic Trainers Association Excellence and Leadership Award, and the Dan Lebria Award for Service by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. In May 2010, he was awarded the Dr. Albert G. Tini Award for Service to the Archmere Academy Athletic Department.  He is a member of the National, Eastern, and Delaware Athletic Trainers Associations and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
