Sophia Chen '24 Takes 1st in the State for Math League

The State Math League competition was held online this year in the form of four, 30-minute timed competitions. This was followed by a March Madness style "Math Madness" tournament among the teams that emerged as the Elite 8 at the end of the regular season.  Sophia Chen '24 placed first in the state during the regular season and then took the state title after winning in the Elite 8.
After placing 2nd in the state during the regular season, the 9th Grade Archmere Math League Team entered the Elite 8. The 9th grade team of Sophia Chen, Gavin Nguyen, Alicia Chu, Michelle Zhang, Kaia Yalamanchili and Nick Mowbray beat Sanford School 18-14 in the semifinals to reach the state finals, where they fell to Wilmington Charter.

Individually, Sophia Chen came in 1st place in the state, Gavin Nguyen came in 6th, and Alicia Chu came in 23rd.

Congratulations to the 9th Grade Math League Team!
