Student/Faculty Blood Drive Donates 49 Units

On Wednesday, February 24, Archmere held a student-faculty Blood Drive to benefit the Blood Bank of Delmarva. The Blood Bank of Delmarva serves the community by meeting the needs of patients, hospitals, and members for safe, high quality blood products and related services. The staff from the Blood Bank of Delmarva remarked that this was the first school drive they have been able to do in almost a year, since the pandemic began.
Archmere had about 40-45 donors consisting of students, faculty, and parents participate in the Blood Drive. Faculty member Meaghan Thomas spearheaded the event, which took place throughout the entire school day. As a school, Archmere donated roughly 49 pints of blood which will help to save the lives of nearly 200 local patients in the Delmarva area. Desso Bryant of the Blood Bank remarked, "This week’s drive will provide a huge boost to the blood supply which would not be possible without Archmere spreading the word and encouraging students and faculty to join us."

More than 79,000 blood donations are needed in this area each year for about 20,000 patients across the Delmarva Peninsula. More than 30 convenient mobile donor sites are located throughout Delmarva. Please call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8 for an appointment or make an appointment online.
