Sophia Chen '24 Places in the Top 5 Scorers for the AMC 10 B Math Exam

The Mathematical Association of America Mathematics Competitions (MAA AMC) program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem-solvers. The Mathematics Competitions are a series of examinations and curriculum materials that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students. Archmere freshman Sophia Chen participated in the competitions this winter, placing in the top 5 of all young women in our region for the AMC 10B exam. This region includes Eastern PA and Delaware. The competitions were administered around the country on Thursday, February 4, 2021 and Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
The AMC 10 is a 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examination in high school mathematics, providing an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. It is also is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad. The competition has grown to over 300,000 students participating annually, in over 6,000 schools.

Congratulations to Sophia Chen '24!
