Baseball Completes Comeback Win Over Charter
On Thursday, May 13, after being down 4-1, the Archmere baseball team scored four runs in the final four innings while holding Wilmington Charter scoreless for an exciting 5-4 victory. The Auks are 12-5, and seeded 14th in the State Tournament.
Archmere’s comeback began in the fourth inning, when they scored twice with runs from Trey Albanese and Matt Dellose. In the fifth inning, Nick Zhu doubled off the left-center field fence with one out and came home on a fielder’s choice RBI off the bat of Matt Puppio.
Mike Lang wrote of the turning point in the sixth inning, "Auks starting pitcher Matt Benson retired the Force in order in the sixth, setting the stage for the completion of his team’s comeback. Erik Risnychok singled to center, and when the ball bounced through the centerfielder, the runner went all the way to third before slamming on the brakes about a third of the way to home. Allan Mousley followed with a single to left, allowing Albanese to come home."
Pitcher Matt Benson allowed eight hits and walked one in 6.2 innings while striking out five. Trey Albanese had three hits and scored a run, and Allan Mousley also reached three times with a run scored and an RBI. The team will play Indian River High School on Thursday at 4:00pm at home in the first round of the DIAA State Tournament.
