Monthly College Counseling Update: November 2021

Class of 2022

Seniors will be receiving a lot of admission decisions in the next three weeks. The College Counseling office will learn more about context in the coming weeks to better understand the landscape and competitiveness of admission pools. Please support our seniors in their conceptualizing both good and bad news.
There will be celebrations and disappointments. Remind them that we are proud of them, and no matter the decision they are still masters of their futures, and an admission decision is not a validation of their accomplishments or statement of qualification. Please inform school or college counseling if there are any students struggling as this time of year can be an emotional rollercoaster. We also welcome phone calls and emails from parents, and of course drop-ins from students to discuss decisions.

Class of 2023

Almost the entire junior class attended the College Panel last week. Representatives from Swarthmore, St. Joseph’s, Washington & Jefferson, University of Rochester, and the University of Delaware answered questions and provided advice to students about their upcoming college search, application, and selection process. Junior introductory meetings started Monday, November 29th and will continue through January. Just over half the class has already scheduled their meeting. Please make it a priority if you haven’t already.

College Counseling Programming:

  • Career Day: On Friday, December 3rd we will welcome professionals from dozens of different careers to discuss their paths, qualifications, and daily work with our juniors. Students will be able to select from five different options in four time slots. The goal of the program is to create curiosity to continue the exploration concerning different majors and careers. One of the messages will be that many careers do not follow a linear path and to keep an open mind concerning the unknown. Thank you to Mrs. Reigner for once again coordinating what promises to be an outstanding program.
  • Practice ACT: On Saturday, December 4th we will host a free practice ACT in the SLC. Sophomores and juniors were welcome to register. A practice SAT will be offered on January 29th and registration will be send out in the near future.
  • Junior Parent Nights: Registration was emailed out regarding the December 9th and January 11th Parent Nights. As a reminder, we ask that one parent attend one of the two programs. Thank you in advance as we attempt to bring you up to speed with the content that your student will be receiving throughout the Spring semester.
