Girls Basketball Defeats Ursuline with Buzzer Beater by Lauren Kim '22

In their most exciting game of the season, the Archmere girls basketball team traveled to Ursuline on February 1, defeating the Raiders 38-36 at the last second with a "buzzer beating" shot by senior Lauren Kim. Archmere held the lead until early in the fourth quarter, when the Raiders tied the score at 30. The game was back and forth until the last timeout, and in 17 seconds Archmere executed their final play - perfectly.

Mike Lang of The Dialog described the last few minutes of the game:

"A missed free throw by the Auks on a one-and-one helped set up the ending. The Raiders called a timeout with 17 seconds to go, and Sophia Filipowski tied the game with a three-pointer from the top of the key with the clock running down. After another timeout, with 4.4 seconds on the clock, Kim took the inbounds pass from Lydia Scarpaci and ran up the right side of the court. She let the ball go a split-second before the clock hit all zeroes, and the ball hit the rim and the glass before falling through, setting off a jubilant reaction on the Archmere sideline."

Sophomore Lucy Oliver led the Auks with 14 points, and senior Lauren Kim had 10. The girls basketball team travels to Wilmington Charter on February 3 at 3:30 p.m.
