Boys Basketball Wins in Overtime

On Valentine's Day at home in the Moglia Fieldhouse, the Archmere boys basketball team overcame a 15-point run by Delmarva Christian in the third quarter, forcing overtime for the 66-64 win. Sophomore Matt McCarthy led with 24, including 6 three-pointers. Junior Chris Albero had 19, seniors Jon Dearing finished with 11 points and Matt Dellose added 10. Sophomore Miles Kempski had the other 2 points.
Matt McCarthy scored the first 5 points of the overtime for Archmere as the Auks held a 59-58 advantage midway through. After an Archmere turnover, Chris Albero stole a pass, taking it the other way for a layup and a three-point lead at the 1:35 mark.

Delmarva Christian tied the score with a three-pointer of their own, but Chris Albero once again answered with another layup with a minute left. The final minute included several free throws between the teams and another basket for the Royals, who had the ball and a chance to tie or win with 3.3 seconds to go, but the inbounds attempt went as a turnover, and Archmere was able to run out the final seconds before breathing a sigh of relief.

The Auks are now 12-5, and will take on Sanford at home on Wednesday at 6:15pm.
