Girls Soccer Defeats Saint Mark's with Thrilling Last Minute Goal

On Friday afternoon April 8, the girls soccer team took on Saint Mark's at the Hockessin Soccer Club, winning 4-3 from a 79th minute goal by Jules Witherell '24. The Auks kept the pressure on the previously undefeated Spartans the entire game, and in total outshot them 9-7 and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Jules Witherell '24 scored the first and last goals of the game.
Mike Lang of the Dialog wrote, "The winning goal began with a free kick from about 40 yards out. It landed deep in the 18-yard box, where Gioffre was able to keep Cirillo from grabbing it. Gioffre carried the ball outside the box, turned and lofted a pass toward Witherell. She redirected it toward the goal, and the ball appeared to bounce off a Spartans defender and into the net."

Emma Gioffre '23 recorded one goal and two assists, Marina Mahon '25 had one goal, and Jules Witherell '24 scored the other two goals. Goalie Gabriela Fernandez '24 recorded four saves. Archmere improved to 5-1-1 and hosts Newark Charter on Wednesday, April 13 at 3:45 p.m.
