Baseball Defeats Wilmington Friends, "Laces Up" for Pediatric Cancer

At the baseball game on Friday, April 22, the Archmere team and the Wilmington Friends team wore gold laces on their cleats in support of the Go4theGoal foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes. Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer gives local athletic teams the opportunity to support the cause by ordering gold shoelaces to wear at games, tournaments, etc.

Jonathan O'Boyle '25 earned the win for Archmere, his first varsity win, surrendering two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Nick Zhu '22, Chris Albero '23, Matt Dellose '22, and Matt Keen '22 each managed multiple hits for Archmere.

The Dialog covered the game, adding that, "The freshman held the Quakers to seven hits in six innings. Three of those came in the second, when Friends scored its only runs. He also received significant help from the Auks’ defense. Zahnow threw out a potential base stealer in the first inning, and the Auks turned a pair of double plays. One of those came in the third, after the first two Quakers reached on hits, Adin Shweiki lined out to second baseman Andrew Parker, who stepped on second base to double off the runner. The line drive also marked the first of nine straight batters retired by O’Boyle. The 10th batter singled with one out in the sixth, but the second double play took care of him."

The Auks, now 6-3, host St. Elizabeth on Monday, April 25 at 4 p.m.
