Archmere Names National Honor Society Members

The National Honor Society recognizes students who have excelled in four areas: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. The Archmere chapter requires juniors and seniors to have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.70 or higher to qualify for membership. Members are expected to serve as peer tutors, mini-roster night guides, and participate in NHS sponsored charity programs. On April 6, returning to the theater for the first time since 2019 with one of the largest audiences in recent years, Archmere inducted 83 new members from the class of 2023 and 2 new members from the class of 2022. After a modified induction last year due to the pandemic, the academic accomplishments of our seniors were celebrated and they received full recognition after a year of serving as National Honors Society members.
Newly inducted NHS members received certificates and commemorative pens, and the 75 seniors received gold collars to be worn at Commencement in June. Mr. David Ifkovits played the National Anthem on the piano, accompanied by Ryana Rajesh ’22 on the violin. The Archmere Alma Mater was beautifully sung by Pauline Hartman ’22 and Maile Gutsche ’23. National Honors Society President, Timothy (TJ) Tomaszewski ‘22, spoke about the significance of NHS membership for our students, saying:

“Defining leadership is difficult. You all are leaders. Maybe not in the way of spearheading a club, team, or work in the community, although many of you do indeed do that, but in living by your values and the good that you do for others, you are a leader. Archmere students live in ways that make them everyday leaders. Academics and leading a class are a large part of that, but by living by your own values and carving your path to the future, you’re undoubtedly a leader. Even though you might not feel ready or able, you inspire those around you.”

During the ceremony, faculty moderator Dr. Mike Burdziak recognized this year’s leadership team and commended the seniors for their programs and efforts:
