Three Archmere Students Sit For American Invitational Mathematics Exam
On Tuesday, February 7th, Sophia Chen '24, Kabir Goyal '26 and Alex Chen '23 sat for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). The American Invitational Mathematics Examination is a selective and prestigious 15-question, 3-hour test given since 1983 to those who rank in the top 5% on the AMC 12 high school mathematics examination, and starting in 2010, those who rank in the top 2.5% on the AMC 10.
Archmere math teacher Mrs. Carly Pisani proctored Sophia, Kabir and Alex as they took the exam on campus. The AIME contains 15 questions to be completed within three hours, in which each answer is an integer number between 0 to 999. The questions on the AIME are more challenging than those on the AMC 10 and AMC 12.
Top-scoring participants on the AIME are invited to take the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) or the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO), which will take place on March 21-22, 2023.
The USA(J)MO competitions put students on the path to potentially qualify for the Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP), European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), and ultimately the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
