Archmere's Winter Musical "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka" Receives Acclaim
On March 4, the closing night of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, the Cappies program sent over 50 critics from Greater Philadelphia high schools to Archmere to critique the winter musical. They rated the show and wrote reviews - the top two are published on the Philly Inquirer sponsored WordPress page.
The Cappies, "Critics and Awards Program," is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers such as The Washington Post, Cincinnati Enquirer, Dallas Morning News, Kansas City Star, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The program’s visiting students each wrote a summary, and the top two reviews are published on the Philadelphia Inquirer Word Press site. Archmere’s depiction of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka received rave reviews, with one student even writing, "Archmere’s show was brought to life by a strong core of both performers and crew. With numerous entertaining and memorable performances, this cast was also elevated by intricate technical elements… Archmere Academy’s production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka exceeded anything from our imaginations and certainly created a sweet spot in the hearts of the audience!”
Archmere has been a part of the Philadelphia Cappies program for the past ten years. The Cappies season ends at the end of April and voting for Cappies Awards will take place the first week of May.
