Archmere Students Travel to Madrid, Spain

The Spanish Exchange program is comprised of a 2-year cycle in which Archmere students host the Spanish students, and then travel to visit their Spanish counterparts in Spain. This September we welcomed ten students from Chamberí Maristas. The exchange students were matched with and hosted by Archmere families in their homes for two and a half weeks. The reciprocity of this program not only reinforces the learning opportunities for our students and the larger Archmere community, but also enhances and strengthens the relationship between the students themselves. 

 

This month, our fourteen Archmere students were accompanied by Srta. Scheflen and Sra. Pérez and stayed with their former guests at their homes in Madrid, attending classes at Chamberí. Students stayed with host families for both weeks; the first week was spring vacation and many students traveled all over Spain or took daytrips to various sites throughout Spain. They enjoyed outings to see sites such as Galicia (Santiago de Compostela), Andalucía (Mediterranean Coast), Cataluña (Barcelona), the Balearic Islands, Castilla, and even País Vasco. During the second week in Spain, the Archmere students experienced life in Madrid, attended classes, visited the Prado Museum and took a daytrip to the Roman/Visigoth/medieval city of Toledo.
