Archmere Rugby Wins Tyler Brown Memorial Cup, State 7's Championship and Regional Subaru 7's Championship

Five years ago, not many students and faculty knew much about rugby at Archmere. After consecutive years of increased expectations, and two years of National Title's, it is clear to say that the sport has made its mark. On May 6th, the varsity (A) Archmere rugby team claimed victory over Salesianum at the 15s State Championship, also named the Tyler Brown Memorial Cup. Delaware’s second annual rugby 15s state high school championship, played at Baynard Stadium, was not only a state championship match but also a night to remember and honor Salesianum rugby player Tyler Brown, who tragically lost his life last year in a car accident. Kevin Olsen '17 was named MVP of the game, which was presented to him by Tyler's parents.

On Saturday, May 13th, the Auks once again came home with a championship trophy in the seven-on-a-side (7s) state title tournament, played at St. Mark's. Both the varsity (A) team and the junior varsity (B) teams won their divisions. This was the third year in row that Archmere has won the 7s championship, and the first time the junior varsity team took home the trophy. Archmere senior Mark Dombroski was named MVP of the tournament.

In the Subaru 7s regional championship tournament on Saturday, May 20th, Archmere's A side sevens squad went 3-0 in pool play against Salesianum's B side 53-0, Cardinal O'Hara 45-5, and Central DE Red Storm 48-0. Then, they defeated St. John's College HS (from DC) in the semifinals 52-5 and defeated Salesianum's A side 31-12 to win the Cup. Mark Dombroski was named MVP of the tournament and Archmere's B side also won the Plate (2nd place trophy). This makes 3 years in a row that Archmere has won both state and regional championships.
