Andrew Rosenbaum '20 Participates in the Generation Adidas International Program in the Netherlands

Archmere soccer player and Penn Fusion Academy midfielder Andrew Rosenbaum '20 was one of 31 players selected to participate in the Generation Adidas International program in the Netherlands, where he trained and played a pair of friendlies in the shadow of Amsterdam Arena this summer. Generation Adidas International offers programs for young players in conjunction with one of the most famous soccer clubs in the world – A.F.C. Ajax. The Ajax Academy facility is named ‘De Toekomst’, which means ‘future’ –  a fitting name given Ajax’s reputation for developing top Dutch talent from a young age. Thanks to the program, the players are given the opportunity to train in the Ajax Academy where most of the current Ajax starters have developed their skills. In addition, players are able to tour A.F.C. Ajax “Amsterdam Arena” stadium, explore the city of Amsterdam and attend an Eredivisie match.

During his stay, Andrew lived with the academy youth professionals and was exposed to the daily life of a professional academy player.
The team of teens from across the U.S. played against youth teams from Ajax and FC Utrecht. Andrew scored a goal on a header in his second game and wore the captain’s armband in central midfield for both.

This was not Andrew's first trip to Europe - he’s played in Spain twice with an Olympic Development Program team and for a Global Premier Soccer team that included some of his Penn Fusion teammates. As he did in Amsterdam, Andrew will be captaining the Penn Fusion U15 team in the inaugural boys Elite Clubs National League come December, but in the meantime he is starring for Archmere Academy as a sophomore.

On October 10th, the Archmere soccer team took on conference foe Charter School of Wilmington at the Talen Energy Stadium, home of the Philadelphia Union. The team played under the lights in a thrilling match, defeating Charter 1-0. Andrew scored the winning goal on a breakaway in the 65th minute, earning WDEL's play of the week that week.
