Archmere Academy Dramatics Presents "The Laramie Project"

Archmere Academy Theatre presents its fall play production, The Laramie Project, a play written by Moises Kauffman and the members of the Tectonic Theatre Project

The Laramie Project is not a typical play. It is a docu-drama, giving the feeling of a documentary more than the normal plot-driven story. The documentary covers the tragic beating death of Matthew Shepard that took place in a remote town, Laramie, Wyoming. Shortly after Matthew’s death, and after the country’s media attention turned the city into a symbol of hate and bigotry, the Tectonic Theatre Company in New York traveled to Laramie and interviewed the townspeople. The play is a conglomeration of those interviews casting a bright light on town of Laramie, and frankly, Anytown, USA. The play is an inspiration, reminding the audience to spread love, not hate.

The show has over fifty characters portraying both the Tectonic Theatre Company members who did the interviews and the people of Laramie. Over twenty Archmere students will be involved with the production both on stage and behind the scenes.

The show will run Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November 11th at 7pm in the Archmere auditorium. Ticket prices will be $5.00 for students of any school, senior citizens and faculty (and their family), $10.00 for general admission. Tickets may be purchased at the door only. Warning:  Subject matter of the play may not be suitable for children under thirteen.
