Archmere Students Earn High WordWright Honors; Rhianna Zaher '19 and Amanda Denning '18 Earn Perfect Scores

Two teams of Archmere students won high honors at this year's national WordWright Challenge, a competition for high school students requiring close reading and analysis of prose and poetry. Participating with 647 schools from across the country, Archmere's eleventh graders tied for seventh place in the nation in the year's first meet, held in October, while the twelfth graders tied for sixth place in the nation.

This year two of Archmere's students also won highest national honors for individual achievement: Junior Rhianna Zaher, who earned a perfect score, was one of only fourteen juniors out of 16,500 in the entire country to do so. Senior Amanda Denning was one of only twenty seniors out of 18,600 to earn a perfect score.

Students who achieved outstanding individual results in the meet included juniors Rebecca DeHeer, Evan Hernick, and Audrey Yang; and seniors Fiona Dunlavey, Madison Heck, Annie Martino, Hannah Nash, Ryan Nowaczyk, and Sarayu Sivaram. More than 65,000 students from 48 states participated in the meet. The Archmere students were supervised by English teacher Steve Klinge.
