Archmere Wrestling Makes Headlines With Win Over Friends

After facing a 15-3 lead during their meet against Friends, the Archmere wrestling team fought back for the win, improving their record to 3-1 in dual meets for the season.
Beginning with the 113 class, the Auks started to pick up energy as sophomore Josh Mottola pinned his opponent 90 seconds into the two-minute first period. The momentum continued as the Auks posted two consecutive pins by sophomore Gary Clements and senior Matt McCurnin to snatch the lead 21-15. Archmere coach Dan Lutz said he was not surprised that Friends controlled the action early. The Dialog writes: "We knew that they were good up top, with their heavyweights, but we knew we wrestled well as a team, and it’s all about everybody doing their job, and that’s what we did today,” he said.

Archmere pushed out a ten point lead that would eventually taper down to a one point edge heading into the final match – where senior Jake Mottola helped deliver a win for the Auks.

PJ Wicks '17, Josh Mottola '18, Gary Clements '18, Matthew McCurnin '16, Nolan Collins '19, Clayton Brooks '18, and Jake Mottola '16 each contributed to the Auk’s team victory with individual wins.
